Cool crisp air, crunchy leaves and cosy knitwear can only mean one thing… Autumn has arrived! This season is one of our favourites, but cold, windy weather can wreak havoc on your skin. Cooler temperatures can make it tougher to maintain that healthy glow we all strive for, but with a few simple adjustments, you can boost your skincare routine to help counteract dull, dry or problematic skin this Autumn.
Lock in moisture
Keeping up hydration is key to healthy skin at this time of the year, so your lightweight moisturiser that kept breakouts and shine at bay during summer might not cut it in the cold weather. Think about switching to a richer moisturiser is your skin type can handle it that is packed with nourishing ingredients that’ll leave your skin silky smooth.
Treating the skin to an added hydration booster like CACI Hydratone will work wonders on your complexion too, bathing the whole skin with a gel mask infused with collagen, hyaluronic acid and Vitamins C & E.Exfoliate
During autumn and winter your skin still gets a build-up of dead skin cells and sebum, so regular exfoliation shouldn’t be forgotten. This step will help you achieve a healthy glow, smooth and give your skin an even tone. Just be extra vigilant to not over-exfoliate as the harsher conditions makes your skin more susceptible to irritation. As your skin tents to be drier and more sensitive in the colder months opt for a creamy exfoliator that contains gentle fruit acids (AHAs) like Dermalogica’s NEW Rapid Reveal Peel which removes dry surface debris without dehydrating your skin. Alternatively opt for a powder like Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant that is gentle enough to be used every day. Both can be purchased in the salon.
If you’re looking to go on step further and achieve the ultimate skin radiance try CACI Orbital Microdermabrasion that exfoliates and deeply cleanses to remove old skin cells to reveal more youthful, glowing skin.
Keep temperatures down
When the cold temperatures draw in its instinct to whack up the thermostat, so we stay toasty but, have you ever thought about what this does to your skin? Being indoors at home or in a heated office can dry out the skin, causing that glow to go so instead try cosying up in knitted jumpers and fluffy slippers. The same can also be said for hot showers, so keep them short and turn the temperature down. Post shower, calm and hydrate your skin with Dermalogica’s calm mist which will help lock moisture back in without causing irritation.
Start anti-ageing treatments
The increased sun exposure during summer might have given you a golden glow, but with this comes the risk of wrinkles and fine lines, both signs of ageing. Staring a course of LPG Endermologie treatments now in our Buckingham salon, with the latest Alliance technology will take years off you. Endermologie face can be customised to your skin concerns and is a 100% natural, non-invasive treatment that can:
- Smooth wrinkles & fine lines
- Reduce the appearance of dark circles and eye bags
- Improve skin radiance
- Reduce double chin
- Firm skin
Don’t forget sun protection
The temperatures might be dropping but the sun’s rays can cause harmful damage to your skin all year round, so don’t think you can throw your SPF’s to the back of the beauty draw. UVB is weak at this time of the year so it’s unlikely you’ll burn but UVA which is associated more with again is still present, so cover up with a minimum SPF 15. We love Dermalogica’s Skin Perfect Primer with SPF 30 that smooths away fine lines, brightens and primes for flawless skin. Adding your SPF into a product you’d use everyday anyway will save you time and money!
